Gritty and depressing but not without humor it is certainly the best of the solo Wolverine films and one of the best of the X-Men as well. Sure it is a conventional story that is heavily influenced by Alien but while there is nothing new here, the familiar beats are told so well that I really can't knock this film down just because of that. “ 8/10, Finally a really good DC movie. Gal Gadot no doubt surprised many, the latest in a rather lengthy list of casting choices that were protested and then when the film is released are proven wrong. She was terrific in the role and along with an assist from Chris Pine really helped the film along. The other characters were perhaps not that strong (including once again in comic book films the villains) but the storyline and action scenes more than made up for this. The humor hit for the most part and wasn't too overwhelming like it was in Guardians 2, the balance between serious and lightheartedness was well kept.

One worry I had was a possible heavyhanded message of feminism but it was played well. Diana was simply shown to be a person who is just as capable as a man could be, without at the same time sneering at men like last years Ghostbusters did. Perfect balance and blended well in with the film.

I am happy for another solid edition in this genre, might not be up to the top dog so far this year in Logan but easily gets a solid second place. I plan on rewatching in the theater, maybe it will get a bump up afterwards... ” - SerJaimeLannister

I know there is some criticism of the film for its lack of character development but in this case I did not mind, the men focused on were more a vehicle for us to see the terror of what was going on around them and it was done very well, a visual experience more than a standard story one. “ 8/10, I have to say that while this belated sequel doesn't match the greatness of the original it was still quite the visual spectacle. Ryan Gosling does well as usual though I will say to not be fooled on Harrison Ford being given what appears to be equal billing as he is only in a relatively small part of the film. Gosling is the focus but his character moves this film and a good thing as the story isn't as tight as the original Blade Runner and I feel as if there were loose threads around when 2049 ended. The themes and supporting cast don't live up to it either. Tried to continue the "what is human" question but in a more muddled way. Easy to find flaws I suppose but I enjoyed the watch even so, if anyone enjoyed Blade Runner OG then 2049 should be a must watch as well. ” - SerJaimeLannister

“ 8/10, Its a fun heist movie with intriguing characters with implausible but neat little twists, you can tell this was from the director of the Oceans trilogy. Even though I recognized many of the actors here they quickly vanished as the film went on, hell if I didn't know beforehand that Daniel Craig was in this I might not have known that was him starring here. Perhaps the film isn't quite as funny as it wants to be and perhaps its ending goes on too long but this was overall a fine watch, doesn't reach the levels achieved from the Oceans 11 remake but is certainly a rather fascinating watch. ” - SerJaimeLannister

“ 7.9/10, Saw this along with LEGO Batman and like that film this sequel is not quite up to the same level as the first John Wick but this was still a real fun time. Not sure I can really buy the sprawling organization that this film implies John Wick is part of, strained credulity, especially at the end. Absurd is close to what I'd have to call this but Keanu Reeves does such a great job in his role, the action sequences so well done, that I still need to give this film major props for its entertainment value, even if it may have bitten off more than it could really chew with its world building. ” - SerJaimeLannister

“ 7/10, Covenant doesn't reach the heights of the original two Alien films but it is an acceptable watch like Prometheus was. Yes the new female lead is nothing compared to Ripley, yes the crew of the Covenant has nothing memorable about them (outside of Fassbender's Walter) and yes the story involves the usual stupidity that these kinds of films depend on. The decisions these people sometimes make... awful. They are just blank characters waiting to be killed so of course I felt no fear for their safety. Even with these problems I still was entertained with the film, mainly I think because of Michael Fassbender. His crisis of "humanity" was a fascinating watch, more so I think then the alien scenes. “ 7/10, Kong: Skull Island looks fantastic, its visuals are top notch and it certainly well worth the price of admission. The fury of Kong really is something to behold. John C. Reilly's character adds in some great humor as well and the film has a smashing soundtrack. I can't give this a higher rating though as despite all of that the characters are pretty much... nonexistent. The choices some of them make are also foolish to an extent that I just had to shake my head at the stupidity. Simply done for some "cool" moments I suppose. The characters also come to a sort of agreement at the end that was even more idiotic that they thought it would actually work. But whatevs, was a fun enough time even with all its flaws. ” - SerJaimeLannister

“ 7/10, Sequels always seem to be hit or miss and Guardians Vol 2 for me was a hit... for the most part. The characters are what make these movies and they were once again terrific in the sequel. They all had their amusing moments and Gamora was given more to do which made her an improvement over the first Guardians and Yondu was surprisingly good as well. The story was was simple and easy to see where it was heading but the way there was entertaining. Special effects? The best of course. Humor? Part of the reason the first film was among my favorite Marvel films was the jokes and banter between the Guardians and this sequel increased that... which in this case was a mixed bag. While plenty of the jokes hit the issue for me was that there were so many of them. Rapid fire they often came, joke, joke, joke. Sometimes got in the way of everything else, wanted to see characters breathe or more world building and constant joke cracking got in the way of that. Emotional moments also were dead weight for me for the most part like the attempt to tug on the heartstrings with the relationship of Starlord with Ego and Yondu. Really didn't work for me.

Still, the positives certainly outweighed my issues with Vol 2, while this won't be on my Top Ten list this year unlike the original back in 2014, it will get an 8/10* and is a solid sequel.

*Saw Guardians 2 again and after the rewatch I have to downgrade it slightly. The jokes that didn't land for me the first time around were evn more painfully unfunny and a few of the sillier bits were just... not enjoyable to watch. Will settle with about a 7.5 as overall still a fun film... just with parts of cringe that ruin the flow. ” - SerJaimeLannister

“ 7/10, Yes, M. Night Shyamalan has made a decent film of which I am thankful. James McAvoy really sells the multiple personalities as well to hilarious and spooky effect. I can't say I really felt the tension that I wanted to in the film though which was a bummer. It started off well but somewhere along the line it started drifting for me, perhaps it was the inclusion of the psychologist and her role instead of simply focusing on McAvoy and the girls he kidnapped. This and a few silly occurances held the film back but it was still an overall fun time. Shyamalan may not be back at his peak with his Sixth Sense, Unbreakable films but he is well on his way back I believe. Stay away from big budget films and stick with psychological thrillers alright?

Also the very last scene of the film... I'm not sure what I think about it, certainly and interesting move but does it work... I have to say I'm conflicted. ” - SerJaimeLannister

“ 7/10, The first Kingsman movie surprised me with how great it was and I think the sequel suffered in the way so many do in that the film tried to copy the first one only to have it be "bigger". The CGI got rather distracting after awhile and the new American characters didn't have enough screen time to really get me to like their characters the way I wanted to. The Golden Circle decided to push the tongue in cheek humor of the first into a truly absurd spectacle this time around which made it hard to get as invested as i had in the first which was still somewhat grounded and somewhat serious. A bit frustrating. Plus was Julianne Moore in the same movie? She seemed full on cartoon with her personality and her secret lair. Strange.

The action sequences still entertained though if not as much as the original and Taron Egerton and Mark Strong brought their A game as well even with not as sharp material. As a sequel The Golden Circle is acceptable, not terrible but could have been so much more. ” - SerJaimeLannister

“ 7/10, Its a fun watch mostly, this new incarnation of Spiderman is certainly one I can get behind, from his antics, costume and action sequences that go along with it all. Unfortunately I have the same issue with Peter Parker that I've always had with these films, I simply can not stand his teenage awkwardness or the attempts to have "humor" with them. It is painful to watch and detracts from my enjoyment of the film. Besides this my main issues are that again with comic book films the villain is not that fleshed out. This (though Michael Keaton himself was excellent) and the badly edited final battle hurt the film for me. “ 7/10, My overall feeling toward The Girl With All the Gifts is disappointment unfortunately. The first act started off with great promise for me, had the potential to be a great zombie film with the different twist given to the genre. Almost wish I had come into this film blind so that when what the children really are is revealed it may have had more of a punch for me. Still a great concept. After the first act however it became more of a standard zombie film which brought the enjoyment down even if it was well done. Tropes galore yes but interesting still.. if not terrific. The ending was worse to me, wasn't expecting anything great after what came before but still frustrating. Had a great child actor but in the end didn't have a story to really make her shine. The film tried but didn't reach me with the themes it tried to express.

Sounds overly negative but it was a perfectly serviceable film for what it is, better acting than most, has the gore many will seek and the small cast means a bit more character development than the standard zombie flick would give. “ 6/10, Started out with great promise, had some humor, a little character introduction with distinct personalities and I was hoping for a Guy Richie lite film. Unfortunately when things go into the crapper and they all start shooting at each other the quality drops fast. Frankly I got rather tired of the firefight as it dragged on, only so much can be squeezed out of it and all the fun disappeared fast and became repetitive. Also got rather silly, no doubt was supposed to be "funny" but again it was just tiresome, same with the double crosses. Free Fire seems to be all style, with characters that could have been memorable with more development but alas none is given. Then since the firefights became dull I couldn't fall back on that to make up for the characters. Average film. ” - SerJaimeLannister

Everything that made the original anime film great was taken and simplified and thinned out in favor of more action scenes. Scarlett Johansson did a fine job with what she was given and the visuals were spectacular. The city and the cybernetics were fantastic but I feel the film was trying to do too much in the time it was given. Would have worked better as a miniseries imo. ” - SerJaimeLannister

“ 6/10, The Hitman's Bodyguard has some truly amusing moments and some entertaining action scenes. Unfortunately its plot is pure fluff and the characters just Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L Jackson doing Reynolds and Jackson mannerisms instead of doing any acting and becoming a different character. Felt like I was watching Deadpool before the experiment with the same humor as we got in that film. Lazy film really with uninteresting subplot of Reynolds and a female Interpol agent and a slightly more interesting one of Jackson and his wife. I'd call this decent cable watch but hardly anything that anyone needs to see. ” - SerJaimeLannister

“ 6/10, Yes this is silly fluff and is not as exciting as the trailer wanted to make it look like but as a turn your brain off kind of film it mostly succeeds (rather like King Arthur). Not sure I ever need to see it again unless its a "nothing else to do but watch The Great Wall" situation. Should have seen it in the theater though, tv at home simply does not do the visuals justice. That is the main star in the film, not Damon or any of the Chinese actors, its the wall. Nothing else is really memorable about the film after all except for the two main fight scenes at the start and end of the movie. Shame, hoped for more. ” - SerJaimeLannister

“ 6/10, The more I thought about this film after watching the less I found I liked it. Detroit is incredibly manipulative and also glosses over what was a tragic event in America's history but Kathryn Bigelow spends more time on an Eli Roth lite version of torture porn. I found the behavior of the officers involved in the main sequence at the Algiers motel to be over the top, almost cartoon mustache twirling villainy instead of finding them to be realistic. The film is obvious propaganda which hurt the experience for me. The film is marvelously shot though and the acting is terrific, I just wish there wasn't such an obvious agenda being pushed here and to act like there is even remotely any parallels to be made in 2017. ” - SerJaimeLannister

The third act got to be quite absurd as well and got hard to stick with. Still even if it wasn't impressive to me on a story or character basis it was well directed and acted. “ 6/10, Given the bad reviews from critics and audience goers alike I wasn't really expecting much from this new Mummy edition and perhaps that helped because I came away feeling that this was... fine. Nothing that you want to kickstart a new franchise with unfortunately I simply had no real emotional investment to any of the characters. Russell Crowe came closest but wasn't given enough screentime to really be attached to. The blonde sidekick was useless and the mummy was attractive in her living form so there is that I suppose. The movie definitely looks good, got to give it that, too bad that this is the biggest praise I can give it. ” - SerJaimeLannister

“ 6/10, The Dark Tower certainly looks good. It is well acted by Idris Elba, Matthew McConaughey and the boy playing Jake Chambers. The problem of course is that in its wisdom Sony decided to basically cram too much storyline into one 90 minute movie while at the same time adding in and changing things as well. Its a shame, this could have been a great series, the first book of Stephen King's Dark Tower series could have been adapted no problem for a 90min flick without the nonsense that the writers did here.

Still even though the film is not a good adaptation from the books, as a film it is mildly entertaining so i can't trash it completely. I never have to see it again but at least it wasn't a disaster of a movie like other King films turn out to be. ” - SerJaimeLannister

Jokes and characters felt recycled from previous films while also being more 1 dimensional. The background ninjas who are supporting Lloyd have nothing memorable about them other than a single characteristic and the villain felt like a evil Batman and Lloyd a worse version of Emmett. Still, Ninjago had enough going on to be fun enough even though it isn't at the level of LEGO Movie or LEGO Batman. If have younger kids I'd definitely bring them to this as I think they'd enjoy it but don't expect to feel the same way as an adult. ” - SerJaimeLannister

“ 5/10, Well! This is the best film since Dead Man's Chest. Not that this is saying much as At Worlds End and Stranger Tides were both garbage. The 5th entry into this Pirates franchise is well... bland. These movies have long since devolved into a cartoon version of the original. Yes the original was more fun then anything close to "realistic" but it was more concerned with good story and characters and not just shenanigans which these films have been plagued with since the 3rd. Slapstick and bad jokes are more important now and not making a story that has any sense whatsoever. Jack Sparrow is no longer a fast talking pirate who is ingenious in his planning and in his escapes, he now is simply a bumbling fool who through his messing up manages to somehow still get out of a scrape. Disappointing. Our Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley replacements are shadows of what they are filling in for. Not that the other characters or the story that they are in are any better. Plotholes, plotholes. The only bright spot that saved this from being as bad as Pirates 3 and 4 were was Javier Bardem. He was not enough to save this however as the script really didn't use him well though the man tried.

So I guess this film will rank in the middle of the Pirates series, 1,2,5,3,4 for me. This series really needs to end. Guess will have to wait and see the money the studio will make, if it profits enough... we might get a 6th sad to say. ” - SerJaimeLannister

“ 5/10, This movie frustrated me, I felt like Valerian could have been so much better but the writers simply got lazy and so let this property down. I really enjoyed how it opened from the credits to the opening scene. Then we are introduced to our main characters. Have to say I was not impressed. I could not buy that they were such "elite" agents or that the two actors had any chemistry at all (bad since they are supposed to have buds of romance starting to bloom). Also their dialogue can be rather... cringe inducing. Their banter was not fun or funny in the least with few exceptions and stopping the movie every 15 minutes for him to hit on her was not pleasant. Then the uneven story. I do not understand why certain subplots were put in here since they have absolutely nothing to do with the plot. One goes on for at least 10 minutes and while entertaining on its own, it had NOTHING to do with the main storyline, a complete irrelevance. Some things are left vague or confusing as well and did not help as I was trying to navigate the film.

Valerian looks terrific though I must say, the effects, the aliens and the lore created are all great. The action sequences were terrific as well, its just too bad the story was so jumbled. There is a baseline of a possible very interesting universe. I wouldn't mind a TV series just focusing on the station. With thousands of species with thousands of cultures and beliefs you can really go a long way with that, take time with it and not be messy like this film. ” - SerJaimeLannister

Once again there is a shoddy plot with characters I care nothing about with humans given more screen time rather then you know, the Transformers. Forced romance between Mark Wahlberg and new woman who was supposed to be an Oxford professor instead of a Victoria Secret model. Of course all the other characters are pointless and flatter than Kansas. With all this comes the standard Michael Bay cringe humor and dialogue though fortunately it wasn't as terrible as the previous films. Product placement is scaled back thankfully as well and the CGI was tolerable.

Transformers: The Last Knight was a mess like the whole series is but i can say that for me anyway it wasn't a soul crushing experience like Age of Extinction was. Shorter too fortunately. “ 3.9/10, Aaron Taylor-Johnson is proving to be a decent actor and this movie shows this growth well. Unfortunately for him its wasted in a dull thriller that falls into the uninteresting drudgery that is risked in a film that takes place all on one small location as The Wall does. There is simply not enough meat to stretch this out into even the meager 90 minutes that is shown. Worse is the absurd skill (among other absurdities) that the enemy sniper is given, would put a comic book character to shame. Then there is the ending... no spoilers but it really was the final middle finger to my negative experience watching this thing. Fortunately saw it on DVD so skipped ahead a bit now and then to hasten the film concluding would have been much more irritating if I had to stick it out through its entirety. My suggestion is to avoid this, most probably have never heard of it anyway so good for them. Can't quite get it to a 4/10 so will go with 1 1/2 star rating.
