Psycho (1960) More at IMDbPro »

The content of this page was created directly by users and has not been screened or verified by IMDb staff.
Since the beliefs that parents want to instill in their children can vary greatly, we ask that instead of adding your personal opinions about what is right or wrong in a film, that you instead use this feature to help parents make informed viewing decisions by describing the facts of relevant scenes in the title for each one of the different categories: Sex and Nudity, Violence and Gore, Profanity, Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking, and Frightening/Intense Scenes.

Sex & Nudity

A man and a woman are shown lying in bed in their underwear. (It is implied the couple just had sex.)

A woman takes a shower. Her breasts are partially shown.

Violence & Gore

A woman is stabbed repeatedly with a kitchen knife in various areas while showering (we NEVER see the knife penetrate the woman (a key cinematic point), but do see a lot of blood running down the drain and on her arm, although in black & white.)

A man cleans up a bathroom where a woman was murdered (we see him wiping up a large amount of blood, which is also in B&W.)

A man is stabbed in the chest, not shown, but we do see blood splatter on his face. We then see him fall down a staircase, and he is stabbed repeatedly while on the ground (not shown).

Two men struggle across a room for a moment until one man knocks the other unconscious by hitting him with a glass vase.

A man's face briefly appears with a skeleton trim as the camera fades away from him.

Profanity

A few sexual references/innuendo. Other than this, there is no profanity throughout the film.

None

Both murder scenes are quite terrifying, especially the famous shower murder. These scenes are both accompanied by suspenseful/intense music.

The scene in which a woman unexpectedly finds another woman's decaying corpse is very startling and may be considered disturbing. Most audiences will also be startled when the killer appears in the doorway behind the woman as well.
