Sony continues to develop more Marvel Comics' "Spider-Man" spin-off movies, including an R-rated  "Morbius the Living Vampire" feature, focusing on a human 'pseudo-vampire', with a screenplay by Burk Sharpless ("Dracula Untold") and Matt Sazama ("The Last Witch Hunter"):

Created by writer Roy Thomas and illustrator Gil Kane for Marvel, 'Dr. Michael Morbius', a gifted intellect, expert biologist, biochemist and neuroradiologist with a Ph.D. in biochemistry...

Morbius: what might his Spider-Man spin-off be like?

Rob Leane Nov 22, 2017

Morbius is the latest Spider-Man villain to line up a solo spin-off movie. Here are the basics about the character...

Long-time followers of the comic book movie news cycle will know that Spider-Man spin-off announcements are a fairly common occurrence. While The Amazing Spider-Man franchise was still going, fans were told to expect films focused on everything from the Sinister Six to Peter Parker’s Aunt May. Talk of a Venom-centric movie bubbled away for years, as well.

However, until Sony made a deal with Marvel Studios to share the Spider-Man licence, resulting in the iconic web-slinger’s indoctrination into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Captain America: Civil War and Spider-Man: Homecoming, Sony’s spin-off ideas seemed to be just that: ideas, which never actually happened.

But now that Marvel is helping Sony with the Spidey character (Tom Holland’s web-head will next be seen in

Sony developing Spider-Man spinoff for Morbius, the Living Vampire

Not content with its Venom and Silver & Black movies, Sony has added a third project to its shared Spider-Man universe, with THR reporting that the studio is developing a Morbius, the Living Vampire film.

The project has been penned by screenwriters Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama, and the script has already been submitted to Sony. Sharpless and Sazama most recently penned Power Rangers, while their previous credits include The Last Witch Hunter, Gods of Egypt and Dracula Untold.

Created by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane, Morbius made his Marvel debut in Amazing Spider-Man #101 in 1971 and is the alter-ego of Dr. Michael Morbius, a scientist who became inflicted with a form of vampirism after attempting to cure himself of a rare blood disease.

Sony is pushing full steam ahead with its plans to develop its Spidey-related Marvel properties, although it is expected that the spinoff movies will not be connected to the Marvel-produced Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Sony Developing Movie on Spider-Man Enemy Morbius, The Living Vampire

Sony Developing Movie on Spider-Man Enemy Morbius, The Living Vampire
Sony Pictures is developing an untitled movie based on Spider-Man’s antagonist Morbius, The Living Vampire.

The project is being written by the scripting team of Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama, whose feature credits include “Power Rangers,” “Gods of Egypt,” “Dracula Untold” and “The Last Witch Hunter.”

Morbius was created in 1971 by writer Roy Thomas and artist Gil Kane for “Amazing Spider-Man” issue number 101. He was a scientist who tried to cure himself of a blood disease with tragic results as he became afflicted with vampiric traits such as fangs and a thirst for blood — and wound up battling Spider-Man.

Morbius appeared sporadically in Marvel Comics in the subsequent years and was revived in the 1992 series Morbius the Living Vampire, which had a run of 32 issues through April, 1995.

Sony had no comment as to whether the Morbius project will be connected to its Tom Holland Spider-Man movies or the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Morbius the Living Vampire Is Sony's Next Spider-Man Spin-Off

Morbius the Living Vampire Is Sony's Next Spider-Man Spin-Off
It looks like Sony has even more projects on the burner for their Spider-Man spin-off movie universe than we previously thought. Developed in secret, it's come to light that the studio is moving forward with a movie based on Morbius the Living Vampire. According to a new report, the script has been submitted and the studio is ready to get it in front of a camera, which likely means finding a director to tackle the project. No director's names were brought up in this initial report about the next Spider-Man spin-off for Sony's standalone Marvel Universe.

The movie, simply titled Morbius, was written by Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama, who most recently wrote the live-action Power Rangers movie for Saban and Lionsgate. Their other credits include God's of Egypt, Dracula Untold and The Last Witch Hunter. So this seems to be in their wheelhouse. While no specific plot details have been provided,

Dracula Untold Writers Developing Spider-Man Spinoff Film About Morbius the Living Vampire

  • DailyDead
Out of all of the superheroes in the Marvel universe, Spider-Man's lineup of villains is perhaps the most eclectic, intriguing, and horrifying. There has always been an added undercurrent of dread to the foes the web slinger squares off against, and Morbius the Living Vampire is certainly no exception. With Sony currently filming a Venom spinoff film, the studio is wasting no time developing other characters in Spider-Man's cinematic universe, as they are reportedly developing a feature film spinoff focused on Morbius.

According to THR, Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama (whose writing credits include Dracula Untold, The Last Witch Hunter, and the upcoming Lost in Space reboot series) have submitted a screenplay to Sony for a new Spider-Man spinoff movie about Morbius the Living Vampire, aka Dr. Michael Morbius, a scientist who accidentally transformed himself into a bloodthirsty creature of the night. Created by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane,

Can Madea's Boo 2 Kill Off Happy Death Day at the Box Office?

Can Madea's Boo 2 Kill Off Happy Death Day at the Box Office?
After earning more than five times its budget on opening weekend, the Blumhouse thriller Happy Death Day will have plenty of competition in its second frame, with the year's most crowded field to date, five new movies opening in wide release. Among the newcomers are Lionsgate's comedy sequel Boo 2! a Madea Halloween, Warner Bros.' disaster thriller Geostorm, Sony's biopic Only the Brave, Universal's The Snowman and PureFlix's Same Kind of Different As Me. We're projecting that writer-director-star Tyler Perry's sequel Boo 2 will follow in its predecessor's footsteps by taking the top box office spot in a crowded field, with $24.6 million.

The third frame in October has traditionally become the most crowded weekend of the year, which started in 2015, when four new movies hit theaters, The Last Witch Hunter, Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension, Rock the Kasbah and Jem and the Holograms, although only the first two movies were

Why Flash Gordon Reboot Has Been on Indefinite Hold

Why Flash Gordon Reboot Has Been on Indefinite Hold
Back in the spring of 2015, 20th Century Fox moved forward with its long-awaited Flash Gordon remake, setting director Matthew Vaughn at the helm, but we haven't heard anything about it since then. It turns out there's a very good reason for that, with Matthew Vaughn revealing in a new interview that he's still been working on it, but his original vision for the story was basically taken by Marvel's 2014 blockbuster Guardians of the Galaxy. Here's what the director had to say below, when asked if he's still working on a Flash Gordon movie.

"Yeah, we've been working on it. For me, the only problem with Flash Gordon is Guardians (of the Galaxy) kind of stole what I would have liked to have done with it. You've got Star Wars, you've got Guardians, so you've got to have your own space opera, but you have to find something that can survive among these two very,

Win A Signed Poster From Annabelle: Creation

Annabelle: Creation is one of 2017’s scariest films!

Variety reports: “Annabelle: Creation,” which conjured $35 million in its opening to dominate an otherwise lackluster frame last weekend, will wind up the weekend with about $64 million in its first 10 days. The film is the fourth in New Line’s highly profitable “Conjuring” universe and should see the combined worldwide grosses hit the $1 billion mark this weekend, thanks to 2013’s “The Conjuring,” 2014’s “Annabelle,” 2016’s “The Conjuring 2,” and “Annabelle: Creation.” Next up is “The Nun,” starring Taissa Farmiga and Demian Bichir and due out July 13.

In his review, Michael Haffner says “it proudly stands next to The Conjuring films as delivering real scares. What helps with this is making the audience afraid of not just the doll, but of what other being is haunting the house as well as the always hidden mother. It’s a terrifying trifecta that fits perfectly into the ominous surroundings.

Annabelle: Creation Wins Weekend Box Office, Earns Double Its Budget

Annabelle: Creation Wins Weekend Box Office, Earns Double Its Budget
As expected, New Line's Conjuring spin-off dubbed Annabelle Creation took the top spot at the box office this weekend with $35 million. The low-budget spin-off has already doubled its $15 million budget, and it's potentially shaping up to be one of the most profitable movies this year. Other newcomers The Glass Castle and The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature both underperformed, leading to weak opening box office numbers.

Box Office Mojo reports that Annabelle: Creation debuted in 3,502 theaters, for an impressive $10,006 per-screen average, with The Nut Job 2: Nutty By Nature debuting in third place with $8.9 million, with a meager $2,232 per-screen average from 4,003 theaters, behind Dunkirk in second palace with $11.4 million. The Glass Castle opened in ninth place with $4.8 million, earning a $3,337 per-screen average from 1,461 theaters. Annabelle: Creation, a spin-off of The Conjuring, came just shy of its predecessor, 2014's Annabelle, which debuted with $37.1 million, with a grand total of $256.8 million ($84.2 million domestic,

Can Annabelle 2 Topple Dark Tower at the Box Office This Weekend?

Can Annabelle 2 Topple Dark Tower at the Box Office This Weekend?
While Sony's The Dark Tower did managed to take home the box office crown in its opening weekend, it certainly wasn't a convincing win, just barely beating Dunkirk with $19.1 million, coming in under most expectations. This weekend, The Dark Tower box office prospects are looking even worse, facing a tough second weekend that brings in three vastly different movies to theaters, New Line's horror prequel Annabelle: Creation, the Lionsgate drama The Glass Castle and the Open Road Films animated sequel The Nut Job 2: Nutty By Nature. It seems like a one-week reign at the box office will be all for The Dark Tower, since we're predicting Annabelle: Creation will take the top spot with $40.2 million, easily besting The Dark Tower and the rest of the field.

Box Office Mojo reports that Annabelle: Creation is slated to arrive in over 3,400 theaters, with The Glass Castle expected to arrive in 1,400 theaters,
