Storyline

Years ago, Krypton was about to explode and Kal-El was sent to Earth to escape that fate. However, his older cousin, Kara, was also intended to accompany the infant as his protector. Unfortunately, Kara was accidentally diverted into the timeless Phantom Zone for years before finally arriving on Earth decades later and found by her cousin who had grown into Superman. Years later, Kara Danvers is a young professional adrift in a thankless job until a fateful crisis ignites a sense of purpose using Kryptonian powers she had long hidden. Inspired, Kara decides to emulate her cousin's superheroic ways, only to find her foster sister introducing her to the secret Department of Extra-Normal Operations, dedicated to fighting alien menaces including those Kara inadvertently led to Earth. Now with such help, the Maid of Might takes her place as Earth's newest champion with new friends and enemies challenging her world. Written by Kenneth Chisholm (kchishol@rogers.com)

Trivia

Alex Danvers does not exist in the comics and was created for the series. She notably resembles Linda Danvers/Supergirl, the character created by Peter David after Kara Zor-El was wiped out of comic book continuity. See more »

Goofs

Sometimes a green light can be seen in the reflection of Kara's glasses. This is due to the anti-reflective coating on the glasses and it's not a reflection of a green screen. See more »

Supergirl has a lot of potential and a lot of promise, but that's all it has.
23 April 2016 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

For what it's trying to be, Supergirl is a great show. It's family-friendly and PC in every possible way (to the point of shoving it down our throats) and it's actually a lot of fun... sometimes. In between the cheesy dialogue and grating pop singles, there are some very cool moments in Supergirl. There's a potentially great antihero in Maxwell Lord, a promising cast altogether, oh, and J'onn freakin' J'onzz - far and away the best thing about the show. There is clever dialogue sprinkled around and a few character beats do pay off in the finale, but the best episodes are the oddballs. The White Martian versus The Green Martian, The Flash crossover (I do hope they do more because their chemistry was phenomenal), creepy freak-of-the-weeks like Toyman, threatening villains like Non - that's the kind of badass comic book hero stuff I want to see. Not awkward banter between a love triangle (or rectangle) or them degrading Superman in every possible respect (it's funny when they instant message but literally every other reference to Clark puts him in a negative light).

It's a show with potential, and if it is to continue, some things need to go. Tone down the overtly PC writing, get rid of the pop songs, give the effects department a bigger budget, overall more action, less talking, and this could be a winner. But as of right now, Supergirl has all the potential in the world. And that's all it has.
