Goofs

Throughout the series we often hear music being played in the background during some scenes. On at least three occasions the music being played was released after the time period the series is set (1977). For example Toto's Hold The Line plays on the car radio in the first episode, despite being released in 1978, as well as Boomtown Rats' I don't like Mondays later in the series, which wasn't released until 1979, as well as Gerry Rafferty's Baker Street - released in 1978. Disappointing and dull
19 October 2017 | by See all my reviews

It takes a special kind of committee to take a story about serial killers, match it with a great director like Fincher and still turn out this tedious, forgettable show.

The main character, Holden Ford, is a straight-up bore: He's too pretty to be a real agent and just smart enough to be annoying. His hostile, self-centered, know-it-all girlfriend, Debbie, is a classic example of the one- dimensional "strong woman" character written by script writers who probably don't know any strong women. Their entire relationship seems to exist only to provide the audience with soft-core sex scenes and manufactured "tension" around their various petty arguments. They're insufferable.

More complex and nuanced characters include Agent Tench and Dr. Carr (as well as the various serial killers they interview, notably the terrifying Edmund Kemper) but even they aren't enough to carry the show when Ford's lack of charisma sucks the thrill out of every room he enters.

Also, for a show that spends a fortune on location shoots filled with classic 1970s-era cars, why not spend some money on authentic wardrobe and hair? Most of these characters from 1977 look like they just walked out of a Banana Republic.

I love "Zodiac" and was eagerly anticipating the premiere of Mind Hunter. But even Fincher's beautiful, dark directing doesn't save this slow, lukewarm cop drama.
